Engineering Book

A bit of sun and hot sand in the winter Last January 7th I turned 36. Belong to a generation strange, watered as far as regards space milestones .. Neither fish nor fowl, not lived the first man on the moon, and now there is a high probability that either see a man on Mars. A gap of more than 40 years separate the famous words of Neil Armstrong and right now I write .. At the moment, forecasts a possible place riskier manned mission to Mars for the distant year 2031, and there seems no hurry to perform them. On September 12, 1962, President John F. Kennedy issued the challenge .. a challenge to its own strength, their own countrymen, to their own country .. We choose to go to the moon .. In This Decade It was the Moon for many reasons, some of those discussed in the podcast dedicated to Apollo XI .. space race, technological advancement, politically and militarily to the then Russian enemy, cold war .. But what really mattered was the effort of an entire country to achieve a goal, that desire was to be devoted all available resources and to achieve a goal: The Moon. And so they got .. at that time became a common theme, a phrase on everyone's lips .. "If we managed to reach the moon, we can do anything." Many thought that this was the beginning and soon to come even more incredible achievements .. It launched the first satellite, first man went into space, it made it to the moon .. and the sequence of events seemed endless .. Out movies, engineering book and articles that we placed in 2001 on Mars, Jupiter and the 2010 before we realize we would be living on other planets .. But it was not .. With the cancellation of Apollo dreams and ambitions of human beings in outer space were postponed and eventually were reduced to low-orbit flight around the Earth. On July 20, 1989, commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the moon landing, President George Bush (father) made a speech to the nation in which, perhaps trying to emulate Kennedy, build hope again travel space. Bush tasked to NASA: Develop a mission to take us to Mars in a period of 30 years, 2019, a long-term challenge, then, and if planned well, it seemed more than reasonable. NASA was then brought together experts and best sites for 3 months to devote himself body and soul to this project .. the project that would take us first to tread a different planet to ours. But like most of the committees, his job ended up being manipulated and it became increasingly confused .. Slipped into the project too negatively influenced bureaucrats, trying to develop a mission as complex as possible so that the different interests, companies and technologies involved have no place in it. First, we should triple the size of the proposed Space Station, providing it with hangars, fuel depots, docks and base control for the crew. From there, return to the moon to build a base with the necessary facilities to accommodate various ships in various stages, they could go about building the rocket and the spacecraft that would take them to Mars. Since the Earth and through the Space Station would go to the moon carrying materials and fuel necessary for the crew and engineers built a ship there for the trip to Mars. From the Moon and, once the construction phase, the ship ready to take off 18-month journey that would lead to the orbit of Mars, where the team would fall for second plant the American flag outside of our planet .. When some of the hopeful dreamers space received this "Report of the 90 days" felt how they liked the world over .. No politician in their right mind, even anniversary of Apollo who were celebrating, would approve such a mammoth project. That project was presented to Congress .. Its cost was estimated at 450,000 million dollars .. That amount was nearly cause a panic among legislators in the House and of course, the Mars mission was canceled. No administration was prepared to outlay in Science, an investment that could be compared only to the cost of World War II .. NASA accused unrealistic, some returned to rescue the memory of the tragedy of the Challenger in 1986, and the result has been another 20 years without a proper challenge to our true capacity. A brilliant aerospace engineer, who lived all those moments legendary conquest of space as a child. and that is not resigned to be relegated our advance to the Earth orbital missions. Because Zubrin believes it can get, the only thing missing is the desire, determination that another generation before we got to get to the Moon .. No such challenge, the objective, and the union of intentions were in the 60's. So when that project was canceled by NASA, Robert Zubrin was proposed a different mission, with a more direct, more realistic and I got the trip to Mars would not fall into oblivion. To do this, Zubrin has set several points that make your project the most interesting of how many exist today to win our next step in the space race, a series of statements that could become his mission in the real mission to Mars. The greatest difficulty that was faced with Zubrin fuel. Most experts agreed that it would be almost impossible to launch a spacecraft from Earth loaded with all the necessary fuel for a round trip to Mars. To solve this problem, Zubrin and his team of engineers were studying a theory that was around since the 70's and announcing that could make fuel available to the chemical elements in the atmosphere of Mars. (CH4/CO2). The first manned and would not be the Martian surface everything needed to mount a "chemical refinery" on Mars, as well as all materials and weight they could lighten the next mission and manned. After checking that the first ship has arrived at Mars, would the second mission, this time manned Mars that would stay for 1 year and 6 months .. Sufficient time to perform multiple experiments in-depth knowledge the planet and have refueled the ship back. First send the vehicle back to his own "Propellant plant" .. An unmanned mission to Mars would take what it takes to generate there, the fuel return trip. Later, taking advantage of some of the moments of closest approach of the orbits of Mars and Earth, the second ship to be launched with astronauts inside and fuel for a trip that, thanks to these orbits, only lasted 6 months. Upon reaching the surface would begin a stay at the red planet a year and six months, time that would take advantage of new nearby orbits Earth to Mars and back. Once refilled fuel tanks, the astronauts return home using the ship that transported the first mission trip back in another 6 months. The idea .. Robert Zubrin project currently forms the mission more real possibilities for doing something that, sooner or later get but personally I would like to see with my own eyes .. the first man on Mars. The project of this charismatic engineer does not stop there. Robert Zubrin is one of the staunchest supporters of the colonization of Mars and it has devoted much of his life. In 1988 created the Mars Society with the aim of promoting the exploration of our neighboring planet and that the effort to reach Mars will not keep falling into oblivion. In addition to the links I provide input in the text, I recommend taking a look at the official website of the Mars Society (in English) and of course, the version of the Mars Society in Castilian. The photos in this article are frames that have drawn the documentary "The Mars Underground", which Robert Zubrin explains step by step throughout your project. Also available in Spanish under the title "Journey to Mars" and I strongly recommend that when you see him for some time. The biggest problem I see is to ensure that all components come well: We have lost probes on Mars or any of its components is damaged. I must say that I can see I look forward to get humans to Mars and to determine whether there is or was life. These sources of methane have me intrigued. I think it would be a great achievement that humans will reach Mars, but I read not long ago an article in Science Kanija which alluded to one of the major drawbacks to this type of travel: radiation. The article can be found at this link. But Mars is to go to a neighbor's house ..
